Volunteer Profile : Rhoda Villafuerte
What inspires you?
I get inspired by other people's passion, innovation, and creativity.
How did you get involved with FIAGKV?
I saw an article in the local community newspaper for a volunteer orientation meeting and since I was then already doing elderly care - which I found rewarding - I went. Then and there, liking what FIAGKV stood for and what their volunteers did, I signed up.
Can you share your most enjoyable/challenging/rewarding/memorable FIAGKV volunteer experience to date?
I've taken "Patrick" to a couple of doctor's appointments. I found out that without my help, he would have to take three bus rides and walk some distance in his poor health and with a walker. I thought that was an unbelievable chore, yet he always had the most positive attitude and nicest smile and never complained.
What would you tell someone thinking of becoming an FIAGKV volunteer?
Find an orientation and go! The process is easy, the schedule of volunteer opportunities there for you to choose what is right for you. The difference you will make in even just one life will be priceless. At the end of your own lifetime, you'll have an answer to "what have you done for another that had a positive impact in their life?"
Do you have a personal motto/favorite quote you'd like to share?
Only one life, will soon be past.
Only what's done for others will last.
