We asked a few of our volunteers to share their Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley experience. This is Andrea's story.
"When my daughter entered high school, I had more free time all of a sudden and knew that I wanted to do something that would help enrich my life and our community. The problem was I still had plenty of responsibilities and also the desire to do all the stuff I had always wanted to do for myself. I did not want to commit myself to volunteer for set days or hours. Then along came FIAGKV by way of a pamphlet in the mail and I knew immediately that with the flexibility that it offered, this was right for me.
I know now more than ever what a great need there is for this service, whether it be for an elderly person who can no longer drive and needs assistance getting to appointments or food shopping, or to provide a break to someone who is a 24/7 caregiver for a sick loved one. For me, it is so highly rewarding to be helping these wonderful people and to see their eyes light up when I arrive. I know that sometimes I am the only person they have seen in days and they are all so very grateful!
I would highly recommend FIAGKV to anyone who may be considering volunteer work. The system allows you to pick and choose jobs on the days and hours that fit your schedule, and the flexibility to volunteer as much or as little as time allows."
