"I don't know what I would do without you," Erma tells us, nearly every time we drive her to a medical appointment.
Erma has a long history of health problems, but was always able to count on her husband, the great love of her life, to get her to her treatments and office visits. When he died unexpectedly just over a year ago, her world went upside down.
"I really didn't know where to turn. On top of everything else, I felt so much guilt every time my kids had to take off work to take me places. It got to the point where my son was going to lose his job over it and that just about did me in."
A social worker referred Erma to Faith in Action. "I'd never heard of such a thing as a volunteer group who wants to help people like me - and at no charge! But I'm so grateful to her for introducing me to this wonderful program," Erma says.
"Without Faith in Action, I wouldn't be able to take care of myself and my health like I should. I'd be stuck," she says. "The volunteers are friendly and easy to talk to. They let you know they want to help and are happy to do it. It's a real gift."
