Sweet Charity is a light-hearted, friendly dessert competition, pitting area confectioners and chefs against one another as they vie for top honors. Our panel of Celebrity Judges will select winners in three categories: Presentation, Creativity, and Taste.
Every ticket holder gets to have their say, as well, and one entrant will win the sure-to-be-coveted People's Choice award. During the evening, we'll have live music, door prize opportunities, lots of laughter, and maybe a surprise or two!

Entrant: Chef Wayne Poythress!
Charleston native Wayne Poythress is the Executive Chef at Embassy Suites. He studied his craft at L'Academie de Cuisine Culinary School in Maryland. In his role at Embassy Suites, Chef Poythress is responsible for offering mouth-watering dining options at morning, noon and night, as well as overseeing the menus for special events at the facility.
Lil' Bit of Heaven Cupcakes!
Sometimes in life the most amazing things come about in the most unexpected way. Thus, was our beginning at Lil' Bit of Heaven Cupcakes! On a whim, Teri Blevins entered the Duncan Hines Red Carpet Challenge Cupcake Recipe Contest in June 2010. After placing in the top ten in country, thanks to the support of the Charleston community, Lil' Bit of Heaven Cupcakes was born ... and the rest is history!

Little India's new chef, M. Hyder, has a fascinating background. Hailing from Kerala, a state in southern India, Chef Hyder eventually found himself serving as the personal chef for a prince in the Qatar royal family! In this role, he traveled the world, garnering fabulous culinary experience in England, France, Italy and more. Hyder is testing out a variety of possibilities for their entry. With their focus on fresh, natural, healthy ingredients, it's sure to be delicious!

Zach Davis is 25 year old resident from Kenova, and has 3 children with his wife Allison. Zach is a home cook who periodically participates in cooking competitions, dinner parties, and private events for family and friends. Zach is thrilled to be participating in Sweet Charity and plans to use this event as a springboard toward fulfilling his dream of starting a small personal catering company.
Entrant: Chef Cheri Godfrey!
Hailing from St. Albans, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort Executive Pastry Chef Cheri Godfrey began her culinary career after graduating from the Culinary Arts Program at Carver Career Center. She worked as an apprentice at Tri-State Greyhound Park training with Chef Jessica Glenn and Chef Thomas Withrow.
Presenting her decadent offerings at this charity holds a special meaning for Cheri, as she was a caregiver for her Grandmother for the past ten years.
Entrant: Chef Linda Coulter!
Linda Coulter, CEC, ACE, Bistro Chef at the Ashton Place Kroger, is a member of the American Culinary Federation, West Virginia Chapter. As a certified chef, she serves as an evaluator for Chef candidates seeking to receive their certifications.
She recently retired from Huck Finns Restaurant in Dunbar, WV and is a past mentor for the Pro Start Program at the Boone County Career and Technical Center. Currently, she is a Chef Instructor at Carver Career Center in Rand, WV.

Meet Host/Emcee ... Adam Harris!
Adam is the Executive Producer of "Mountain Stage w/ Larry Groce," the long-running public radio program produced by WV Public Broadcasting and distributed by NPR Music. He came to Mountain Stage Radio Show as an intern in 2005 after completing a degree in Music Business from Radford University. He became the show's producer in August 2011 and helped guide the show to it's historic 30th anniversary in December 2013.
Meet Celebrity Judge... Kennie Bass!
A native of the Mountain State, Kennie has been broadcaster in West Virginia since 1978. He is most familiar to television viewers today in his role as anchor/reporter for WCHS & WVAH TV, where he has worked since 1997.
In addition to his television work, Kennie is active in community theater. He is presently appearing as Aslan in the Children's Theater of Charleston's production of 'The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.'
Meet Celebrity Judge... Alisa Bailey!
Charleston, WV, native Alisa Bailey is a senior public administrator, government official, and marketing practitioner with more than 30 years’ experience in government and private sector industries.
In the spring of 2012, she assumed the position of President and CEO of the Charleston WV Convention & Visitors Bureau where she leads the bureau’s mission to enhance the city’s tax base and quality of life through tourism expenditures.
Meet Celebrity Judge ... Larry Groce!
Larry Groce is one of the founders of Mountain Stage Radio Show and has been host and artistic director since its beginning in 1983. He also has been Executive Director of FestivALL since it began in 2005.
Larry has received numerous honors and awards. In 2013 he was one of three honorees at the Charleston Community Music Association’s Arts Awards and received an honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Charleston.
